To accommodate growth and help set the stage for current and future mobility solutions in northern Nevada, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) initiated the I-80 Corridor Study in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The map below shows the study area, which is comprised of two sections:

  1. I-80 from the East McCarran Boulevard Interchange in the City of Sparks east to the Wadsworth-Pyramid Interchange
  2. I-80 from the Nevada-California State line east to the West McCarran Boulevard Interchange.

The exception area within the McCarran ring was previously studied in the Washoe County Freeway Corridor Study, completed January 2003. Projects identified in that study are currently being implemented.

The I-80 Corridor Study is an opportunity for local agencies and the public to collaboratively address travel needs based on current and future growth. The study’s goal is to identify issues and potential solutions and provide a proactive planning tool that can help expedite improvement projects.

Issues and potential solutions will be determined from a comprehensive analysis of transportation, economic, environmental, and land use needs and resources—and from reaching out to residents, businesses, local agencies, and area stakeholders to create and maintain effective communication. The final study will be delivered in January of 2009.

Through this process, NDOT and other northern Nevada decision makers will have thorough research, information, and recommendations with which to make planning decisions in the study area.
